Julie Spence, outgoing head of Cambridgeshire police, criticised drivers who complain about crime while failing to recognise the seriousness of driving too fast.
“Speeding is middle-class anti-social behaviour,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
“People think we should be able to get away with it. They wouldn’t tolerate lawbreaking by somebody else but they do it themselves without thinking.
“It all seems OK until something tragic happens, like their child dies because of a road traffic accident.”
As I’ve spent time on my own in London and a relaxing weekend away with Becky dedicated to reading, I’ve read a lot of good posts this past week. And despite all the interesting and thought provoking articles I’ve read, this is probably my favourite.
I’ve long found it amusing that some drivers who get caught speeding get defensive and feel hard-done by, and yet feel that breakers of other laws should be punished to the full extent of the law. Granted I don’t drive myself so I’m on the outside looking in, but from where I’m looking it smells of hypocrisy.
